A: Bartenders, servers, managers, event staff, and anyone involved in alcohol service must hold a valid certificate.
A: Yes. Serving It Right is the provincially recognized standard for responsible alcohol service in BC.
A: To earn your Serving It Right certificate, you must successfully complete a multiple-choice exam with 35 randomly generated questions. A minimum score of 80% (28 correct answers) is required, and each purchased exam includes up to three attempts.
A: Individuals who are licensees, managers, or employed in retail liquor stores must still obtain Serving It Right certification. Servers moving to British Columbia from other provinces with valid, current certification may be exempt from the SIR training requirement. However, because alcohol service regulations vary across provinces, employers in BC may still request Serving It Right certification as a best practice (Responsible Service BC)
